Edification of the Villa Belle Fleur
Located in the heart of the Queyras Valley, the Villa Belle Fleur embodies the heritage and tradition. Since its construction in 1906 by Jean-Baptiste MATHONNET, notary clerk from Tours. Born on January 14, 1886, in Tours. Jean-Baptiste moved to Castle Queyras in 1889 with his mother and his little brother Antoine, after the death of his father. On March 25, 1906, he buys the land and immediately has Villa Belle Fleur built.
Much more than just a house. This emblematic residence, built and occupied by Jean-Baptiste during his intense and too short life. Symbolizes a deep commitment to the family heritage and the preservation of the natural beauty of the region.
The Legacy of Jean-Baptiste MATHONNET
In 1914, he was mobilized and joined the 11th artillery regiment of Briançon, going there on foot from Château Queyras. In June 1916, he died after being seriously wounded and was declared "Mort pour la France" (Died for France). Today, Jean-Baptiste MATHONNET rests in the cemetery of Château Queyras since February 1917.
The Villa Belle Fleur, with its thick walls and sloping roofs, is a living testimony to the history and traditions of the Queyras Valley. It was designed not only as a residence but also as a refuge for the family and future generations. A place where local history and culture would be preserved and celebrated. This commitment to heritage conservation is reflected in every stone of the Villa Belle Fleur. Making Villa Belle Fleur a lasting monument to Jean-Baptiste's love for his native land and family history.
